The group was formed in 1996 as White Umfolosi Performing Arts in Ngwana Primary School. This school, which has seen decades and perhaps heading to a century now, is in a remote area in Plumtree, West of Zimbabwe, former Rhodesia.
The then first members had previously been a football team and had just received a whiplash from a competitor school were they lost 8 goals to 0. They decided to quit the game and pursue music. The then 8 boys began singing and performing in their school and surrounding ones too. And in that new line of entertainment, no school stood in their way as they became the talk about town. Their dedication and commitment to their new endeavor paved the way to the United Kingdom where they performed in several venues and before the Queen of England Herself.
When they went for Secondary Schooling, their mentor and teacher, Mr. Ncube also transferred to a closer school to their Secondary School so that he could continue inspiring and teaching them. This Imbube Dance became their passion, it became a part of them. They practiced daily and wrote new songs. Before they knew it, High School Years were over and most Members had to leave the group behind to further their studies. Half of the group relocated to the then City of Kings, Bulawayo where they continued to sing and dance tirelessly. With no guaranteed or fixed income, more members relocated for jobs and schooling.
Future, who was with the group from its birth immediately embarked on continuing the dream of taking White Umfolosi further. He gathered a few acquaintances he had met with in his forged career and slowly rebuilt the group in Johannesburg. 2016 saw the White Umfolosi Performing Arts resurrect itself and transform into Amavevane A Capella.
Amavevane A Capella is now a 12 Member Group that renders its services to any event or occasion. The variety of songs and dances allows them to spice up any celebration and or comfort in the less privileged events like funerals.
Their mission is to keep the African culture alive for the benefit of future generations through live arts. This was personally endorsed and inspired by the Great Joseph Mshengu Shabalala, Founder and Father of the World Renowned Lady Smith Black Mambazo when Amavevane visited him in 2016.
